Project of Leo XIII seminary
The Leo XIII Seminary is a vibrant student residence at KU Leuven, seeking motivated and committed students. From a Christian perspective, the Leo XIII Seminary aims to provide students with the space and environment to grow not only academically but also personally. We expect students to make certain commitments to communal life, participate in formative and group-building activities, and demonstrate openness to religion and the Christian tradition.
Living in Communities
The Leo XIII Seminary offers a unique opportunity to learn how to live with others. Our residence consists of nine communities, each made up of ten to fifteen students. Communal life has its benefits, but it also brings challenges. Those who are part of a living group are never alone. Together, students embark on a journey through life, experiencing its ups and downs as a community. Through this shared life, each student has the chance to build their own identity, and mutual respect is essential in this process.
- Each community has its own unique identity and dynamics.
- In every community, agreements are made that all students must respect. - Students are expected to actively participate in communal life and be open to fellow students. - Each community has its own kitchen, which serves as the heart of the community. We encourage shared meals as a group activity. - Fun activities will be organized within the community, allowing students to get to know one another better.

Leo XIII Common activities
In addition to the activities within each community, Leo XIII also organizes formative and group-building events for all 117 students. These activities provide opportunities to meet students from other (international) communities. We strive for a healthy balance between entertaining and educational activities. We host a variety of events, like a kickoff weekend, a barbecue, benefit activities, bar evenings, organ concerts, Christmas party, the Leo XIII cantus, a creative evening, a carnival evening, a folk dance...
It is important that students recognize these activities as an added value to their experience. While participation in activities is expected, students are not required to attend every single event. They have the freedom to create their own schedule. Christian tradition
The Leo XIII Seminary has always maintained a distinctly Christian identity. Founded by Cardinal Mercier, it has housed and formed many generations of priests. Although there are no longer seminarians at Leo XIII today, we continue to uphold the rich tradition of communal life, formation, and religious housing.
Several religious activities are organised at Leo XIII, including morning mass and morning prayer, weekly student Eucharist, Taizé evenings, Croques 'n Christ evenings and more. While participation in these activities is not mandatory, students are expected to be open to religion and the Christian tradition. For religious students, these activities offer a meaningful addition to their experience. For searching or atheist students, they could provide an opportunity to explore something unfamiliar but valuable. Students should be aware of the religious background of the Leo XIII Seminary. Students are expected to demonstrate openness to religion and the Christian tradition. Respect for the religious beliefs of others is essential. |
