Project of Leo XIII seminary

The Leo XIII seminary is a vivid student residence of the KULeuven that is looking for motivated and commited students. From a Christian point of view the Leo XIII seminary wants to offer students the room and environment to grow in their studies but also as a human being. We expect from students that they take certain commitments in the communal life, participate in the formative and group binding activities and show openness for religion and the Christian tradition.

Living in Communities

The Leo XIII seminary offers a unique chance to learn to live together with others. In our residence we have six communities that each consist of ten to fifteen students. The communal life has its advantages, but it also brings challenges. Whoever is a part of a living group, never stands alone. The students go out on a discovery tour through life with its ups and downs together with others. Through the communal life one can build his/her own identity. For this mutual respect is essential.

 - each community has its own identity and dynamics (see below). The student picks the community that fits him/her best.
- in the community agreements will be made that each student has to respect
- the student has to take part in the communal life and has to open up to fellow students
- each community has its own separate kitchen, which is the core of the community. We encourage eating together as a group activity
- fun activities will be organized in the community through which the students can get to know each other better

Leo XIII Common activities

Foto
Besides the activities in each community Leo XIII also organizes formative and group binding activities for all its 100 students. Through these activities students can meet the (international) students of other communities. We seek a healthy balance between entertaining and formative activities. Last year we had a lot of activities: an opening barbeque, several movie nights, monthly organ concerts, benefit quiz, Leo XIII cantus, 'kotconcert', carnival evening, solidarity meal, Christmas folkbal...

-It is important that the student recognizes this offer of activities as a surplus value.
-The student has to participate in the activities, but is not obliged to take part in every single activity. The student can make his own schedule of activities.

Christian tradition

Foto
The Leo XIII seminary has always had a clearly Christian profile. It was founded by cardinal Mercier and it has housed and formed many generations of priests. Today there are no longer seminarists at Leo XIII, but we still want to continue the rich tradition of the communal life, formation and religious housing.

There are several religious activities that are organized at Leo XIII: morning prayer, weekly prayer night by San Damiano, weekly student Eucharist, advent and Lenten meditation... The students are not compelled to participate in these activities, but there should be an openness towards religion and Christian tradition. For religious students the activities offered are certainly an interesting surplus, for searching and atheist students it could be an enrichment, a way to meet something they are not familiar with, but that has an intrinsic value.

- the student is aware of the religious background of the Leo XIII seminary
- the student has an openness towards religion and Christian tradition
- respect for the religion of other students is important
